Caring for the Land on Our Regenerative Organic Certified® Farm

At Pacific Botanicals, we're proud to be a Regenerative Organic Certified® farm! Learn more about what that means, how it informs our daily actions on the farm, and see how it impacts the fresh and dried herbs you get from our farm.

We go above and beyond Certified Organic standards with our Regenerative Organic Certified® farm. We regularly monitor the biological health of our soil through laboratory analysis, in-field evaluations, and disturbance tracking. By measuring indicators like microbial activity, soil respiration, and water-holding capacity, we can better understand the living ecosystem beneath our crops and make informed decisions about how to care for the land.

Practices like compost application, reduced tillage, and diverse crop rotations help build organic matter and support the microbial communities that nourish our plants, which in turn nourish you!

Crop rotation is another one of the key ways we care for the long-term health of our fields. As part of our Regenerative Organic Certified® commitment, we track and plan for a minimum of four distinct crops between plantings in each field. This added diversity helps break pest and disease cycles, supports healthier soil biology, and gives the land time to recover between crops.

By approaching each field as part of a longer cycle, rather than a single season, we're able to grow healthier herbs while building a more resilient farm for the future.

At Pacific Botanicals, we know herbs grow best within a thriving ecosystem. So that's why we also take action to support both pollinators and biodiversity! Through a generous grant from the Xerces society, we installed a native plant garden to attract specialized native pollinators to our farm. These plantings provide habitat for bees, butterflies, birds, and beneficial insects that help maintain balance across the farm. The result is a healthier landscape, more resilient crops, and a thriving diverse ecosystem.

All of these actions, from the way we care for our soil to the way we support pollinators, come together to create a thriving farm that makes all the difference.
