Black Elderberry Syrup Recipe

Skip the pre-made syrups and go for this herbal variation instead. This Black Elderberry syrup, made with our Certified Organic dried Black Elderberries (Sambucus nigra), is super easy to make. We love combining it with seltzer water and a garnish of fresh Mint or Rosemary for a fun mocktail!

Black Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Certified Organic dried Black Elderberries
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup Certified Organic dried Rosehips
  • 1/4 cup Certified Organic dried Lemon Balm (optional)
  • 1 Certified Organic Cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 1/2 to 1 cup honey (adjust based on personal preference)

Directions

  • Combine Black Elderberries, water, Rosehips, Lemon Balm (if using), and Cinnamon stick (if using) into a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer gently for about 45 minutes or until the mixture is reduced by about half.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Strain the mixture into a wide mouth jar using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and gently press to release any additional liquid into the jar.
  • Once the liquid has cooled to room temperature in the jar, add the honey and stir until dissolved.
  • Store in the refrigerator.
